Painted With Magic

It is only when you begin DIY-ing, you notice silly things like, say, some paint colours have really silly names. Crushed Apple, for example. or Chocolate Explosion. or Pink Sugar. I could live with just “green” or “brown” or “pink”, but seeing “creative” names I doubt that I’d want to splash some “crazy cream” onto my walls. Or spread some melted chocolate all over. So when I came to the shop in search for yet another paint for yet another room I’m redecorating, it was a difficult choice. At times I wish I’d have a smaller house. Why do I need this big one anyway. Yet the choice was made sometime ago and it was my own choice that I will not exchange it for the smaller. As I managed to convert my house into my home, I have no intention to leave it. I like it. I love it. As simple as that.

But, back to the paint-pains. I’m redecorating a spare bedroom with the intention of finding a lodger to live in it.  When Iwent through the lodgers stage before, Ididn’t like it. A stranger is a stranger. And he is in your house. What is there to like?! But this time it is a nessesity, so without further elaboration, let just accept that at this particular period of my life I do need a lodger. And again – back to the paints. so I went to the shop and found lots of colours on the shelves, yet none of them looked (or rather sounded) inspirational. After all, I’m not too keen on the idea of applying anything that has got food or natural phenomena assosiation to my walls. My walls deserved better then a Pacific Breeze or Burning Embers. And then I finally found the one. There is was, hidden between Sugared Lilac and Spring Blush, and it was labeled – Magical. Now, that’s a good name for a paint, don’t you think? It promises of the wonders to be happening inside the magic circle – the room. How awesome is that?! I thought, it’s a pity that all the magic created with this paint will amuse somebody else and  not myself. Now I almost wish I could redecorate my own bedroom too. Hush hush, t h i n k before you make your wishes. I honestly can do with no more rooms, walls, carpets and furniture assemblies…

I bought the Magical paint yesterday and tonight, when I’ve got home from work, I’ve just painted the room. The whole bloody room in one evening. If this is not the works of magic, then it must be some kind of crazyness. R.O.D. – renovation obsession disorder. Anyway, the room is done now and ready for a carpet and the furniture. I have to say, the paint colour does live to its name and creates an essence of magical shimmers dancing on the walls, oh so enchanting. Of course, most of it is just imagination inspired by the unusual choice of the colour name. But still I am pondering how come that the only colour I really liked in the shop happenned to have the name that has special meaning for me as well. Must be pure magic, eh?  (ain’t I am glad that I didn’t go with the Moss Blanket or Lemon Punch!?)

  1. well, where would be magic in telling the color as it is? 😉 he he…I delibarately missed out the hue of the paint in the discription above, as I thought, it would be interesting to give whoever is reading a chance to imagine the Magical colour. I bet it’ll be different to everyone. when you name it, you kind of enforce to the others your own perception of what is magical and what is not. 🙂
But, sure, I can tell what my magical colour looks like, there is no secret to it. I could’ve add a picture, but unfortunately since I only get to work on a room in the evenings, after work, I have to wait till weekend to take a picture in a day light :-/
the Magical colour would be a tint of fairy mist. No, wait, I made this up. The colour reference is somewhere within the pale lavender-lilac spectrum.

    1. Oh. My. Goodness.

That IS the color that came to mind. The palest lavender… though in my imagination, I added sparkly fairy dust… 😉

      That’s so funny!
