The Highlights Of A Day In The Highlights Of Murphy Laws

In the office:
We’ve finally fixed the thing that didn’t work. The thing worked for a while then gone down again. But at least there was this moment of overjoy…The Murphy Law: Undetectable errors are infinite in variety, in contrast to detectable errors, which by definition are limited.

In the helpline inbox:
User sent complain that she cannot understand, what “the IT person” asks of her. She attached a copy of e-mails, where having received an automatic response message, she…replied to it starting with the words: “Dear Colleague”. Murphy Law here: The only thing worse than an end-user without a clue is an end-user who has a clue – usually the wrong one.

At home:
My third attempt to buy something to decorate the wall has been a success. I’ve bought two ready-made collages in wooden frames, took them to pieces, replaced the ready-made collages with self-made ones and assembled them again. That was the last piece of decoration for my refurbished room that took only three attempts to get right: two shop returns and one complete re-build. The Murphy Law: Everything takes longer than it takes

In my mind:
Not much, just a few little insignificances. I think of Time. And his ways. How fast he runs when we run with him. And how slow he’s moving when we wait…Eventually it transpires to me: time stays. It is us, who go…I think of byes. We say them then we return anyway. Never say good bye and you’ll never be back. I think of chaos too. Although I prefer my world to be in order, sometimes it does appeal to go crazy and create a small-scale chaos. There is always a temptation. And there is always a common sense against it. But chaos often wins because its better organized. Murphy Law: Everything in life is important, important things are simple, simple things are never easy. Think about it, complete the circle.

  1. So you have your refurbished room completed now? Well that is very nice to read. I love it when a project is done….but soon after I seem to find the need for another project. I don’t think it really ever ends.
